Dr Helmut Schühsler, Managing Partner of Techno Venture Management GmbH, sponsors of the event, said, "We believe in the future of European biotechnology companies. After the depression in the capital markets across Europe, private placements as well as IPOs are picking up. There is a chance that Europe will overcome its capital formation problems in the years to come. Conferences like the BFF will play a major role in facilitating the interactions between companies and investors, and will catalyse financings and growth."
Steven Burrill, CEO of Burrill & Company, a leading US life sciences investment bank, will make a keynote speech on 22nd June, entitled, "The way forward for bio ventures in Europe, the US and internationally". This will be followed by a plenary panel discussion on "Building better biotechs through international business models" led by Frank Grams, Global Alliance Director, Roche and Samir Master, Global Head of Business Development and Licensing, Novartis.
Financial workshops will be led by notable speakers on topics including: -Getting institutional investors back to biotech -Cross border biotech deals -VCs strategies balancing today's risks with tomorrow's returns
The event will showcase 60 of the most promising life sciences companies throughout Europe and aims to help private companies to raise financing and prepare for initial public offering.
Prior to the conference, on 21st June, the organisers are hosting 'The Bio-Venture Academy', in association with IESE Business School. This session provides companies with the opportunity to meet in an interactive setting with venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, and marketing experts for one-on-one coaching on the delivery and content of their presentations. This day will also host investor and corporate roundtables attended by senior representatives of big pharma, institutional investors and venture capitalists who will debate the direction for biotech in Europe.
